Does DNSMentor support Akamai Edge DNS?
Yes. DNSMentor manages Akamai Edge DNS DNS through its API, showing its zones alongside the other 25 supported providers in a single estate view. Every Akamai Edge DNS change goes through the same 56 pre-flight checks, approval policy, independent verification and tamper-evident audit trail as every other provider.
Connecting Akamai Edge DNS
- Create the credential in Akamai Edge DNS The hostname from your EdgeGrid credentials, ending in .akamaiapis.net — for example akab-xxxxxxxx.luna.akamaiapis.net. Akamai issues one per API client. Paste it without the https:// prefix.
- Add the connection in DNSMentor Go to Admin → Providers & API keys, choose Akamai Edge DNS, and paste the credential. DNSMentor stores it encrypted and strips it from every log and export.
- Sync the estate DNSMentor discovers every zone the Akamai Edge DNS account holds and imports every record in them. This is a read operation — nothing is written to any zone.
- Group by client and start working Assign the imported domains to client portfolios, and the estate view, health scoring, checks and audit trail apply from that point on.
What Akamai Edge DNS asks you for
The exact fields DNSMentor needs, and where in Akamai Edge DNS to create them. Every secret is encrypted at rest and stripped by name from logs, exports and the audit trail.
API host not secret The hostname from your EdgeGrid credentials, ending in .akamaiapis.net — for example akab-xxxxxxxx.luna.akamaiapis.net. Akamai issues one per API client. Paste it without the https:// prefix.
Client token secret The client_token from the credentials Akamai issued. Create them in Control Center under Identity and Access → API clients: add the 'DNS—Zone Record Management' API with READ-WRITE access, and nothing else. An API client scoped to that one API cannot touch your delivery configurations even if the credential leaks.
Client secret secret The client_secret from the same credential set. Shown once when the credential is created and never again — if it was not captured, create a new credential rather than reusing an old one.
Access token secret The access_token from the same credential set.
Contract ID not secret Only needed to create new zones, which DNSMentor does not do today. Safe to leave blank; reading and changing records in existing zones does not use it.
Group ID not secret As above — only relevant to zone creation. Leave blank.

Does DNSMentor move my zones away from Akamai Edge DNS?
No. Your zones stay hosted at Akamai Edge DNS and remain authoritative there. DNSMentor reads and writes through the Akamai Edge DNS API, so nothing about your resolution path changes, and if you stop using DNSMentor the zones carry on exactly as they are.
Does DNSMentor validate Akamai Edge DNS changes before applying them?
Yes. All 56 checks run against the zone as it would exist after the change, whichever provider hosts it. The change is then simulated, routed for approval if policy requires it, written through the Akamai Edge DNS API after re-reading live state, and independently verified in public DNS afterwards.
