Getting started
Import an estate you have inherited
How do I get all my existing client domains into DNSMentor?
Connect each provider account and run discovery — DNSMentor finds every zone in the account automatically. For domains at a provider you cannot get API access to, use Import to bring records in from a zone file, CSV, PDF or even a screenshot of the old control panel.
Most MSPs do not start with a tidy list. They start with an estate spread across providers nobody documented, and some of it only exists as a PDF from a handover.
# Discovery, when you have API access
Connect the provider account and press Sync. Discovery enumerates every zone the credential can see and imports every record. This is the fastest path and the one to use wherever possible, because it stays accurate: subsequent syncs pick up anything changed outside DNSMentor.
# Import, when you do not
Import accepts zone files, CSV exports, PDFs and screenshots. Records are parsed, shown to you for review, and only committed once you accept them. Nothing is written to a live zone by importing — an import populates DNSMentor's picture of the estate.
# Then group by client
Assign domains to client portfolios. This is what makes per-client reporting, evidence export and access scoping work, and it is much easier to do at import time than a year later.
Run Estate health as soon as the import finishes. On an inherited estate it usually finds several domains with no SPF, a DMARC record that never left p=none, and at least one delegation pointing somewhere that no longer exists.
