Training & skill levels
Skill levels and what they gate
How do skill levels work in DNSMentor?
Every engineer has a demonstrated skill level, earned through the training modules and their change history. The level decides what they can apply without a second pair of eyes. It is set per organisation, so you decide what each level is trusted with.
# The levels
- Novice — composes and submits; everything is approved by somebody else.
- Apprentice — as Novice, with a growing set of low-risk record types they can apply alone.
- Competent — applies routine changes unsupervised; mail and delegation still escalate.
- Proficient — applies most changes unsupervised and can approve others.
- Expert — full unsupervised apply and approval rights.
# How a level is earned
Completing the relevant training modules, and a clean history of changes at the level below. It is not time-served and it is not granted by job title, though an administrator can override a level when somebody joins with existing expertise.
No level removes the MX hand-check, and no level allows an engineer to approve their own change.
